Cox marks 25 years at FBC Bay Minette, set to retirecomment (0)

August 24, 2006

Henry Cox, pastor of First Baptist Church, Bay Minette, in Baldwin Baptist Association, will celebrate his 25th anniversary as pastor Aug. 27. Cox — who also celebrates his 50th year as a preacher this year — announced he will retire Dec. 31.

A native of Bibb County, Cox was saved and baptized at Schultz Creek Baptist Church, Riverbend, and spent his formative years at Centreville Baptist Church, both in Bibb Baptist Association.

Cox, a graduate of Samford University in Birmingham and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, has served as pastor of seven churches, five in Alabama. He said the highlight of his pastorate at First, Bay Minette, has been the church’s heart for missions. Church members not only support missions by volunteering but also by their “generous financial support,” Cox said, noting the church gives 25 percent of its budget to missions — 20.5 percent through the Cooperative Program and 4.5 percent to the association.

Following his retirement, he will be available for pulpit supply, interim positions and other preaching opportunities. To reach him, call 251-937-2468 or e-mail henryhcox@bellsouth.net.
