Final Easter egg hunt for blind and visually impaired children will be Saturday in Wilsonville

The last of seven Beeping Easter Egg hunts for blind and visually impaired children in Alabama will be Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Triple S Farms in Wilsonville. The event begins with lunch at 11:00 and the hunt should begin around 12:00 followed by the multi-sensory Easter story.

North Shelby Baptist Church provides a multi-sensory Easter story for the kids as well as candy filled eggs which are traded for the beeping eggs found by the kids.

The event is provided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI). The national project involves funds provided by the IABTI which are used to purchase the beeping egg components. IABTI members and partner law enforcement and military explosive experts then construct the beeping eggs and often assist with the events.

This event, in its 13th year in Alabama, has grown to a nationwide program and is named the Rachel Project in honor of Rachel Hyche from Shelby County Alabama. In 2005, David Hyche, an ATF special agent, created the beeping eggs for his daughter, Rachel, who lost her sight at four months old. Since then, various ATF offices nationwide and the IABTI have worked together to support Easter egg hunts with these unique eggs across the nation. (TAB)
