Tim Plant says his 20 years at Calvary Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, have held a lot of blessings.
He’s watched it move from a very traditional church to a church engaging in three services each Sunday — one traditional and two contemporary. He’s watched it change its approach to student ministry based on what nearby colleges needed and he’s watched it adjust its local ministry after a massive tornado hit the city eight years ago. He’s also been a part of training interns to go serve their own churches.
“Calvary is a unique and wonderful church,” Plant said. “It has really been a wonderful place to serve.”
The church recently honored him for those two decades of service. He started in 1999 as minister of education and administration, moved later into the role of executive pastor and now serves as operations pastor.
Calvary’s pastor, Tim Lovett, called Plant the “ultimate plug-n-play pastor” with “diverse gifts” that have been used in many different ways for the good of the church and community.
“Since the tornado of 2011, Tim has maintained great relationships with city officials which has helped us to serve our community in creative ways,” Lovett said. “He also developed partnerships with several other churches in the areas most heavily impacted by the tornado and has maintained those right up to the present. He will always have a prominent place in the history of Calvary Tuscaloosa.” (Grace Thornton)
