Mark Craft is a household name among Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief teams.
Craft has driven from his home in Friendship Association to disaster sites all over Alabama and neighboring states since 2007.
Every location wants him to be there, but it is hard to get anyone to work with him.
“Men are slow to agree to work with him because he can get in positions no one else can, and he is on the top of the roofs. Count on it; if a tarp on a roof is not attached and flapping in the breeze, Mark Craft did not do that job,” said Steve Brooks, Baldwin Baptist Association Disaster Relief coordinator with a smile.
Sharing the gospel
Craft works hard and fast.
“It hurts my motor to go slow,” Craft said.
He works any assignments he is given by the white hat, the person in charge of a particular Disaster Relief site.
Then he looks for additional work to do on his way back to the command center.
“I try to take a chaplain with me when I go to a house to work on a roof. I ring the doorbell, try to get the homeowners outside, introduce them to the chaplain to talk about the Lord, and I go to work.”
Craft, like other Disaster Relief volunteers, desires that the love of Christ be seen as he helps others.
When Craft is working with Disaster Relief, he is not earning income with his company in Locust Fork.
When asked how he manages, he shrugged his shoulders and said, “So? I love Jesus, and I love people.”
