Dwight Kizziah, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, Brookwood, died Jan. 12. He was 73.
A Tuscaloosa native, Kizziah graduated from Brookwood High School and served with the U.S. Army in the 173rd Airborne Brigade during the Vietnam War.
After he returned, he started Southern Breeze Homebuilders, which he ran for 30 years before becoming Brookwood’s chief building inspector. It was at this point in his life that he answered the call to become pastor of Antioch Baptist. He was ordained in 2011 — a month before the deadly April tornadoes — and served as a volunteer disaster relief chaplain. He also served as chaplain to the Brookwood Police Department.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Tim and Michael; and three grandchildren.
