C. Bruce Hose — former state Sunday School office director and longtime pastor — died March 5. He was 69.
His first full-time ministry role was serving as minister of education at York Terrace Baptist Church, Sheffield. He then became director of the Sunday School office for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, where he had a long ministry.
After that, he spent two decades as executive pastor at First Baptist Church, Montgomery; as pastor of First Baptist Church, Union Springs; and as pastor of Glynwood Baptist Church, Prattville. He retired in 2016.
‘People matter to God’
At his retirement, Hose said the Lord had taught him throughout his years in ministry that “people matter to God.”
“If we’re going to be obedient to the Lord then people have to matter to us as well,” he said. “The focus of our entire ministry has to be on people — equipping them to do the work of the Church.”
Hose attended Samford University then completed his degree at Athens State University. He earned a master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and served other churches while he was there.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia (Gini); daughter, Robyn; son, Adam; and five grandchildren.
