When Barbara Kay Edwards came to faith in Jesus as a girl, someone at the church gave her a Bible and told her the red letters were the words of Jesus.
And that’s all they told her.
“Nobody mentored me,” said Edwards, ministry assistant for Elmore Baptist Association. “My heart is for all the young Barbara Kays out there.”
That’s why she wrote a book recently called “Daily on My Path,” a 4-week study through Ephesians. It’s meant to be done together with someone else in a discipling, mentoring relationship in what she calls the Reach, Teach, Minister Initiative.
“The Book of Ephesians is amazing,” Edwards said. “The first three chapters show you who Jesus is and what He did for us, and the last three chapters show us how to apply that. I know for myself when I read through Ephesians, it’s like a heart revival.”
The book walks readers through Scripture, with teaching on how to pray for God to open your eyes as you read, as well as journal what you learn.
She and other River Region partners who have been involved in using it as a mentoring guide — such as Montgomery Baptist Association staff members Tameka Moment and Robin Crowe, along with Shannon Pierce, a member of Journey Church, Prattville — have seen God move in a mighty way, Edwards said.
“Being able to share this with new believers and seeing their eyes light up is a wonderful thing,” she said.
