John Ashworth has been named the new president of The Baptist Foundation of Alabama.
Ashworth joined the Foundation in January 2014 as chief administrative officer, where he has overseen many aspects of the Foundation’s ministry, including trust operations, scholarships, property, investments and eldercare.
Ashworth will take the helm of TBFA when Barry Bledsoe retires this year after 20 years as TBFA president.
“I am humbled and honored to continue serving at The Baptist Foundation of Alabama,” Ashworth said today (May 12). “I certainly have big shoes to fill. Under Barry Bledsoe’s visionary leadership, The Foundation has helped many Alabama Baptist ministries, churches and individuals fulfill the vision God has given them. But there is much more to be done. Along with our excellent board and staff, I look forward to seeing where the Lord will lead in the days ahead.”
Prior to joining the Foundation, Ashworth was a licensed securities professional, having spent 15 years working in the capital markets. Previously, he held positions with Merchant Capital, Jefferies & Company, J.C. Bradford & Company and Louden & Company.
Ashworth is a graduate of Vanderbilt University. He and his wife, Ivy, are active members of First Baptist Church, Montgomery. They have two children.
‘Integrity’
Bledsoe praised Ashworth’s leadership at the Foundation and in his church and expressed confidence in his selection to lead TBFA.
“John Ashworth came to the Foundation 7 years ago with a strong background in finance and administration,” Bledsoe said. “More importantly, John came as a committed Christ follower. As an active member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery, John has served in many capacities ranging from deacon chairman to Sunday School teacher for 4-year-olds.”
“John will lead with integrity and a Christ-centered world view,” Bledsoe continued. “The best days of the Foundation are ahead.”
