Despite pandemic ministries have been blessed, entity leaders report

Alabama Baptist entity leaders celebrated financial blessings and announced new strategic goals during the Nov. 16 afternoon session of the Alabama Baptist State Convention.

Candace McIntosh, executive director of Alabama WMU, thanked Alabama Baptists for giving to the Myers Mallory State Missions Offering.

LaJuana Holloway, manager of Knollwood Baptist Retirement Center, a ministry of the Alabama Baptist Retirement Centers, told how residents had found ways to minister to each other during the coronavirus pandemic.

Russell Klinner, executive director of Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center, shared that while Shocco had relied on reserve funds to operate during the pandemic, the 31,000 guests who have already visited in 2021 and an 18% increase in guests booked for 2022 means that delayed projects are now scheduled.

“That’s huge,” Klinner said.

Rod Marshall, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries, and Derry Johnson, newly elected ABCH board chair, spoke about the organization’s 10-year strategic plan, which includes the following goals: to serve at least 1,000 children in foster care, to aid in 250 family reunifications, to facilitate 50 adoptions each year and to lead at least 50 children to Christ.
