ABUJA, Nigeria — Three members of a Christian family were killed Nov. 29 on their Nigerian farm and another was seriously injured at the hands of Islamic militants.
Muslim Fulani herdsmen are suspected in the murders of Clement and Christiana Ukertor on their farm in Yelewata in Benue State. The next day, the body of their daughter Dooyum, 17, was found, relief group Barnabas Fund reported. The Ukertors’ daughter Blessing, 20, was wounded and hospitalized in serious condition.
Islamic extremists frequently target Christians in Benue State. In June they killed 37 in Okpokwu Local Government Area, which is predominantly Christian. The assailants attacked as the people readied for a Sunday worship service.
The raid destroyed homes and caused more than 500 to flee the area, Barnabas Fund reported.
Nigeria is No. 7 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian. The country leads the world in the number of Christians abducted or killed for their faith.
