KAMPALA, Uganda — Two Christians speaking at a Christian-Muslim debate were chased away and beaten, but not before a participant decided to seek Jesus.
Muslims had organized the Nov. 13 debate in Bulumba town in Uganda. During it, Musa Kirongosa and Swidiki Buyinza told the audience, “Truth is only found in Christ Jesus as the one and the only savior for mankind,” reported Morning Star News.
Some Muslims grew angry, and Kirongosa and Buyinza fled to a Christian’s home nearby. Two hours later, when the two men left, seven men ambushed them. Buyinza was injured and Kirongosa suffered a fractured leg.
The occupants of a taxi scared away the mob and took the two men to a hospital in Kaliro.
“One of the sheikhs secretly visited us in the hospital and said that he has been a seeker of Christianity and plans to join the Christian faith,” Buyinza told Morning Star News.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reports.
