WAD MEDANI, Sudan — A Sudanese Christian assaulted by militants Jan. 1 died of his injuries four days later.
For an unknown reason, members of Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group, attacked Karbino Bla in Wad Medani in Al Jazirah state, reports Morning Star News. Bla died Jan. 5.
Bla, who was married and had an infant child, was a member of Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church.
RSF took control of Wad Medani in December 2023.
The Sudanese Armed Forces and RSF have battled each other since April 15, 2023. The fighting has killed more than 12,000 people and displaced another 5.8 million, according to Morning Star.
Since seizing Al Jazirah state in December, RSF has allegedly killed citizens and sexually assaulted women and girls, according to reports from rights groups and others.
Sources also said Muslim extremists within RSF set fire Jan. 12 to a church in Wad Medani.
Sudan is No. 8 on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
