ABUJA, Nigeria — More than 34 Nigerian Christians were slain for their faith in April, continuing a pattern that has made the country one of the world’s most deadly places to be a follower of Jesus.
According to Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List, Nigeria has not only led the world in the number of Christians killed for their faith but also in the number of Christians kidnapped.
Christian Daily International and Morning Star News recently reported the following:
— A mother and her baby were among more than 30 Christians killed within two weeks when in attacks on several villages in Plateau state. A single bullet traveled through Mwanret Sylvanus and struck her 12-month-old daughter, who was strapped to Mwanret’s back. Both died instantly, a source said.
— Three Christians were killed in attacks upon two communities in Benue state.
— Gunmen ambushed and killed Manasseh Ibrahim along Birnin Gwari-Kaduna Highway in Kaduna state. Ibrahim was pastor of an Evangelical Church Winning All congregation in Gure.
Nigeria is No. 6 on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
