Providence Baptist Church, Clayhatchee, celebrated its 175th anniversary April 28.
Speakers were Chad Hixson, former pastor; Tommy Green, former pastor; Jim Hill, director of missions for Dale Baptist Association until his recent retirement; Jim Peters, pastor, Daleville Baptist Church; and Lance Hobbs, deacon chair.
A plaque was presented by Jane Hughes of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission. Music was provided by Carvil Chalk, former music minister, and the children’s choir.
Those in attendance were able to learn about the church, which opened its doors on May 26, 1849, through a history room and video presentation titled “Providence: the Church at the Flowing Well.” The motto for the celebration was “celebrating the past; rejoicing in the present; and embracing the future.”
