2024 SBC Pastors Conference encourages attendees to live out faithfulness

Burning out. Wiping out. Jack Graham, senior pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, said that happens to pastors more frequently than it should. 

So at the SBC Pastors Conference held June 9-10 in Indianapolis, he and 10 other speakers encouraged pastors across the convention to live out the conference theme — Faithful.

The speakers covered topics like Faithful for the Church, Faithful for Our Families, Faithful for the Next Generation and Faithful Under Pressure.

Speakers

Robert Smith Jr., who recently retired as professor of preaching at Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, urged pastors to be Faithful to the Nations and to follow Christ wherever He might lead.

“When God scatters us, we are to scatter the Word of God wherever we are because we are undercover agents for Christ Himself,” Smith said.

To close out the conference, Steve Gaines, senior pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tennessee, challenged pastors to spend their lives being Faithful to the Cross — to deny themselves daily and follow Christ.

“I want to die every day on the cross,” he said. “I want to be crucified on the cross. And then one day when I check out, on my final day I want to die like Jesus.”

Also during the conference, D.J. Horton, pastor of the Church at The Mill in Spartanburg, South Carolina, was elected Pastors Conference president.
