Fourmile Baptist Church, Wilsonville, celebrated its bicentennial anniversary and homecoming May 4. Originally known as Bethesda Baptist Church, it is the charter member church of Shelby Baptist Association. In 1852, delegates gathered at this church to constitute the association.
Ric Camp, current lead mission strategist of the association, and Hugh Richardson, a former lead mission strategist, shared in the celebration. Mike Jackson, associate executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, was the guest speaker. Guest pianist was Janet Parson.
Special music was provided by the adult choir and a duet by Harold Roper, music minister, and Renee Wilder. Sarah Walters, a commissioner for the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented a plaque commemorating this historical event to Roger Chambers, the pastor. Another highlight of the service was the opening of a time capsule dating back to the 175th church anniversary.
