MOGADISHU, Somalia — A man who put his faith in Jesus Christ in March was attacked in May and then again in July, along with his family.
Morning Star News reports that Muslim relatives attacked Mohammad Abdul on May 5 in Kismayo in the Lower Juba region of Somalia.
Other relatives took his wife and children to another location while he received care in a hospital.
Threats from relatives
Afterward, he moved his family 31 miles away. Even so, his wife started receiving threats from some relatives, telling her to return to them and stay away from Christianity.
Five relatives ultimately assaulted her, Abdul and their children July 8.
After that incident, Abdul again had to have hospital care, this time for injuries that have rendered him unable to speak and for knife wounds in the stomach, said his wife. She suffered a broken ankle in the assault and their children were beaten.
The assailants fled when neighbors rushed to the scene, she told Morning Star.
Somalia’s constitution prohibits propagation of any religion other than Islam, Morning Star says, quoting the U.S. Department of State.
Somalia is No. 2 on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
