NEW DELHI, India — Three Christians in India were taken into custody after they and their non-Christian luncheon hosts were assaulted by angry individuals.
Hindu extremists attacked the three Christians — Subhasini Singh, Sukanti Singh and her husband — on Dec. 26 in Chhankhanpur village in India’s Odisha state, said Sadhu Sundar Singh, pastor of New Living Church in Balasore, to Morning Star News. The extremists accused Subhasini Singh of forcibly trying to convert the luncheon guests to Christianity.

Subhasini Singh said she was beaten unconscious three times and awoke naked and in pain. After she was finally allowed to dress again, she and Sukanti Singh were tied to a tree.
Attacked as well were the luncheon host, Gobinda Singh, along with his wife and teenage daughter, said the pastor.
“If police had not intervened timely, the men would have burned Subhasini alive,” a general secretary in the Biju Janata Dal national political party told Morning Star.
Police detained the three Christians. Based on a complaint from the main assailant, police filed multiple charges against Subhasini Singh and Sukanti Singh.
After videos of the attack upon the three circulated on social media, police arrested the main assailant and as many as 21 other individuals, sources told Morning Star.
India is No. 11 on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
