ABUJA, Nigeria — Violence targeting Christians in Nigeria claimed another 13 lives within two weeks.
On Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List of the 50 places most difficult to be a Christian, Nigeria ranks No. 7, and has led the world in the number of Christians killed for their faith.
On April 28, seven individuals were slain in a raid upon the predominantly Christian village of Kwaple in Nigeria’s Borno state, residents told Christian Daily International-Morning Star News.

Homes, churches ablaze
They also set homes and church buildings ablaze.
“The assault was the latest in a wave of violence reflecting a resurgence of jihadist attacks in Nigeria’s northeast by Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP),” according to the news outlet.
In Plateau state, six people were killed and dozens wounded in attacks May 3–4 on the predominantly Christian towns of Nasarawa Technology Village and Kakuruk. One of the slain was only six months old; three victims had been hacked to death.
“[T]he Rev. Danjuma Byang, a Christian leader in Plateau state, said Fulani herdsmen and other Muslim terrorists intend to destroy Christian communities and establish an Islamic caliphate in central Nigeria,” the news outlet reported.
