A former sheikh who put his faith in Jesus was beaten and hospitalized, during which time his wife left him, taking their six children.
Wambuzi Maka Uthman recounted to Morning Star News that he saw a vision Aug. 1 in his sleep at a mosque in Uganda’s Mayuge town council. Uthman said a man clothed in white and flanked by angels called him by name. After Uthman knelt in worship and in fear, the man instructed Uthman to tell Muslims “to repent and turn to the living God,” Uthman said.

As Uthman traveled home that day, he told a Christian pastor what had happened. The pastor helped Uthman understand that the man in the vision was Jesus Christ.
Hospitalized for a week
Uthman explained to Morning Star that he told the vision to his wife, who thought he had become insane. She informed Uthman’s brothers. Together, they arranged for Uthman to be hospitalized.
But as they were about to leave for the hospital, Uthman told his brothers about Jesus Christ appearing to him. He was then beaten to the degree that he was hospitalized for a week.
While he was hospitalized, his wife left him, taking their children with her to live elsewhere. In addition, family members destroyed his home.
Now in hiding
Morning Star says Uthman is now living in an undisclosed location.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reports.
