Stephen Douglas Brown — a longtime state missionary and minister of education in Alabama Baptist churches — died Aug. 29. He was 77.
Brown attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and began his ministry as a youth minister in that area. After that, he served as minister of education at North Johnson City Baptist Church in Tennessee, starting a long ministry of serving in that role in a number of churches.
Over his 55 years of ministry, Brown served as minister of education at South Roebuck Baptist Church in Birmingham, First Baptist Church Andalusia, Roebuck Park Baptist Church in Birmingham, Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery and Northport Baptist Church. In retirement, he served at Creekside Fellowship in Castalian Springs, Tennessee.
Brown also served for more 40 years with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions in the office of Sunday School and wrote materials for Lifeway.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol; daughter, Kathie; son, Stephen Douglas Jr.; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
