In his novella “Delivered: A Postal-Apocalyptic Tale,” Jason Nelson writes a unique story of a man who pursues his job even in the most discouraging circumstances.
A catastrophic event has hit the world and a man named Franklin, who works for a post office in a small town, continues to deliver the last of the mail to addresses where the inhabitants are either gone or dead. Despite difficulties, Franklin perseveres until he finds a letter that changes his eternal destiny.

Nelson writes with both humor and sadness. The reader is left to wonder about the specifics of the events that led to the setting of the story, but the bleak emptiness of life is well-conveyed, along with hope from the gospel.
‘Unusual and distinct’
The book has an intriguing conclusion that leaves the reader with much to consider.
The first half of “Delivered” is about Franklin, and the second half is a virtual “how to” for writing and getting published. Nelson is helpful in guiding aspiring writers to keep a number of elements in mind when going through the process.
The book is both unusual and distinct as a story and instruction.
Nelson is a husband, father and writer who lives in Alabama and attends Church of the Highlands Birmingham.
