Passage of an “anticonversion bill” in one of India’s states appears to have prompted attacks upon Christians there.
In India’s Rajasthan state, the Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill, 2025, passed Sept. 9 in the Rajasthan Assembly, reported Morning Star News. The bill awaits approval of the governor.

Nonetheless, harassment and assault have been directed toward Christians in at least nine incidents since the bill’s passage, stated Morning Star.
One such case was on Sept. 23, when approximately 50 Hindu extremists descended upon Hindustan Bible Institute in Pratap Nagar in Rajasthan state. The extremists accused Christians of converting people forcefully or fraudulently.
The bill sets penalties of imprisonment up to 14 years and a fine up to $5,882 in conversion cases. The punishment stiffens when conversion involves a minor, woman, caste or tribal member or disabled individual.
World Watch List
Eleven other states in India have anticonversion laws.
India is No. 11 on Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List of the 50 places most difficult to be a Christian.
