First person: Every day should be Sanctity of Life Day

January 18 is Sanctity of Life Sunday; but for anyone with a Biblical world view, every Sunday should be Sanctity of Life Sunday. In fact, every day should be Sanctity of Life Day.

Every human being is made in the image of God. That has nothing to do with the way we look. We should not make God in our image; God made us in His image. We are the crown of creation — all animals were put under our dominion.

God formed man of the dust of the ground, breathed into his nostrils the breath (spirit) of life, and man became a living soul. We do not have a soul, we are a soul. God is a trinity — Father, Son and Spirit. We are a trinity — spirit, man and body.

When we say we are pro-life, we mean all of life. That includes physical life (our body), abundant life (our mind), and eternal life (our spirit).

The Christmas story is a pro-life story. Having a baby is pro-life. Keeping a baby safe from Herod or abortion is pro-life. The truth that this baby was born to die is pro-life. God told Mary, “You are going to have a virgin birth. Your cousin Elizabeth is already six months pregnant.”

Mary packed up, left Nazareth, and traveled to Judea to be Elizabeth’s midwife. When Elizabeth opened the door to greet Mary, John the Baptist in Elizabeth’s womb leaped in recognition of Jesus in Mary’s womb. Her baby, in the seventh month of pregnancy, leaped in recognition of a baby in the first month of pregnancy. Human life begins at conception; trimesters have nothing to do with it. Abortion is the termination of a human life.

A pregnant woman or girl who seeks abortion as a solution to her problem needs the love of Jesus. She needs spiritual life — spirit, getting born again, before she can understand human life. She does not need our persecution. She needs our proclamation that Jesus loves her and will save her. She needs the gospel.

The good news of Christmas must be followed by the good news of the gospel. Lives must be changed before lives can be saved.
