The bustle of the Easter season is upon us.
Pastors and ministerial staff have been planning for months to make sure the church is ready for the big Easter service. This means the annual egg hunt is approaching as well. Your egg hunt will most likely contain jumpies, a ride or two or maybe a petting zoo — I know we have most of these attractions at our egg hunt as well. We want to make the egg hunt fun and bring new friends on our church campus. Along with the attractive commodities we do not need to neglect the Gospel.

Here are 5 simple ways to incorporate the gospel into your egg hunt.
- Share a clear gospel message to the families.
After the egg hunt or after you eat make sure you open your Bible and clearly tell the families why you celebrate Easter. Walk through the story of Calvary, the death and the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. For example, use six eggs from the resurrection eggs to share the good news of Jesus Christ. The egg hunt might get them there but hopefully this gospel time will help them have a relationship with Jesus or at least open up questions.
- Open a prayer table.
Designate a station/table to allow parents and children to bring their prayer request to the Lord. Train volunteers to discuss what prayer is and how to pray with young children and their parents. Families can write their prayer request on a piece of paper and place it in a box for someone to pray over at a later date. Their prayer request can be anonymous or have their names on it.
- Make a gospel craft.
Prepare an easy craft for kids to complete at the egg hunt. The craft can be a bracelet that says Jesus on it. The craft can be a stained-glass paper suncatcher with a cross decoration. Something easy that allows volunteers to talk about Jesus while the child is making the craft. Children might take the craft home and think about what it means to be a Christian.
- Promote VBS.
Have a booth to promote Vacation Bible School through a game and/or a craft. Allow for early registration with a fun treat if families register early.
- Walk as missionaries.
Equip certain volunteers to make a connection with new guest. Encourage these volunteers to make friends with one or two people at the egg hunt and invite them to church. Sometimes people will come to church if a new friend invites them rather than a pastor or a minister.
Ask yourself why you are having this egg hunt. If it is just to gather eggs, then maybe something needs to be reevaluated.
