Students interested in careers in aviation or construction can apply for a new scholarship offered by the Alabama Community College System and the Alabama Association of Resource Conservation & Development Councils.
The two organizations are offering $100,000 in scholarships through Building Futures, a new program that will award $2,000 each to 50 students enrolled in one of Alabama’s 24 community colleges.
Applications open May 4 and must be submitted by June 12.

The state’s aviation and construction sectors are growing, ACCS regional workforce director Gary Weaver said.
“Building Futures was designed to close a critical gap by supporting students in industries essential to the state’s economic growth,” Weaver said.
Scholarships will cover tuition, books and fees for traditional, non-traditional and veteran students pursuing training in high-demand fields.
Eligible programs include aviation mechanics, avionics, aviation maintenance, construction management, welding and pipefitting, HVAC/R, carpentry, electrical work and plumbing.
The Building Futures website encourages applications from adults entering or re-entering the workforce, veterans and their dependents and people affected by job loss. Current high school seniors in dual enrollment programs who plan to continue in an eligible program at an Alabama community college may also apply.
Qualifications
To qualify, students must be Alabama residents enrolled in a short-term certificate, non-credit or associate degree program in one of the eligible fields. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 grade point average.
Applicants must submit a resume, a high school or college transcript, a professional headshot and a reference letter with the completed application.
Applications can be submitted online through the ACCS website.
