Stephen Walley, founder of Servants Alive Ministries and longtime pastor of Myrtlewood Baptist Church, died July 3. He was 68.
He served as pastor of Myrtlewood Baptist for the last 29 years. He also founded Servants Alive Ministries in 2003. The ministry encouraged pastors in their ministry assignments. Along with marriage retreats, Walley organized annual hunting retreats for militarry and law enforcement personnel. Each year for the last 12 years, Servants Alive produced a yearly devotional “The Richly Indwelling Word” containing 365 devotionals written by various ministers, friends and business associates.
He was a graduate of the University of Mobile and received a master of divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dorthy “Dot” E. Walley; four sons; one daughter; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be July 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Myrtlewood Baptist Church. Lunch will be served at the Myrtlewood Community Center following the service.
