New Prospect #2 Baptist Church, Centre, celebrated its 100th anniversary Aug. 16. Music was provided by Hannah Rhinehart, Tony O’Neil and special guest Sen. Andrew Jones, R-Centre. Deacon Chris Whorton shared the history of the church and two former pastors, Tony Shubert and Greg Locklear, recounted highlights during their ministries at New Prospect. Wendell Dutton, a commissioner of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented a commemorative plaque with members Whorton; Ann Murphy; Jimmy Graham, the oldest original continuous member; and pastor Tony McCain accepting the honor on behalf of the congregation. A fellowship meal followed.
