With 61 decisions for Christ made during the opening night of the Cheaha Area Crusade, organizers are excited about what the rest of the week holds.
Chris Palmer, who serves with Rick Gage’s Go Tell America team, said 17 of the decisions were for salvation.
Palmer and Gage are helping spread the word about the crusade, which takes place each evening through Oct. 1 at Saks High School Stadium.
The desire to reach Alabama for Christ began with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, Gage shared in an email newsletter. “As our nation celebrated its 250th birthday, they prayed and prepared to reach every corner of their state with the gospel through Celebration 250 Alabama in 2026.
Eric Snider, pastor of First Baptist Church White Plains in Anniston, heard that vision and, according to Gage, said, “When the call came from the Alabama State Board of Missions, I knew that we needed to get GO TELL to come and lead a crusade. Our first interest meeting started with 50 or so people last summer and has grown to about 50 churches being involved.”
The crusade begins at 7 each night. Sharing along with Gage tonight is Vietnam War veteran Tim Lee, who lost his legs during a mine sweep with fellow marines. He has served as a full-time evangelist for more than 45 years.
