The house and business of a Christian man in Pakistan was set ablaze, and 35 families fled the village in fear when he was accused of blasphemy.
Sources told Morning Star News that police arrested Kamran Masih the day before a Muslim mob torched his house and pharmacy in Gharial Kalan village Oct. 9 in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Local Muslims claimed Masih shared a video on WhatsApp that they deemed to be blasphemous.

The exact charges against Masih — a father of three — were unknown, relatives and sources told Morning Star.
“Pakistan’s blasphemy laws have long drawn criticism from human rights organizations and legal experts who warn that the provisions are vulnerable to misuse in personal disputes and other conflicts and have disproportionately affected religious minorities,” explained Morning Star News. “[A]ccusations have repeatedly triggered mob violence, extrajudicial killings and prolonged detention.”
Pakistan is No. 8 on Open Doors’ 2026 World Watch List of the 50 places most difficult to be a Christian.
