One. It took only one cross to crucify one Christ. Christians have one heavenly Father with whom they should strive to become one.
Recognizing the theme of “one” in a Christian’s life, organizers of the 2006 Youth Evangelism Conference (YEC) decided to make “One” the conference theme.
YEC will be held at The Church at Brook Hills, Birmingham, in Birmingham Baptist Association with a schedule featuring two identical sessions. Students can attend July 20–21 or July 21–22 to learn about having “One” heart, “One” life and “One” mission for Christ.
“‘One’ has all the elements of the Great Commission in it,” said Keith Loomis, an associate in the office of collegiate and student ministries of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
He said YEC has a two-fold purpose — to clearly present the gospel to students who do not know Christ and “challenge and equip” students to share their faith when they return to their hometown.
YEC participants will hear Building 429 in concert and speakers David Platt, pastor of Brook Hills; Rick Ousley, founder of Quixotic Ministries and former pastor of Brook Hills; and Richard Ross, professor of student ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Platt will talk about how students need to have “One Heart,” or a personal relationship with Christ. Ousley will discuss how students should have “One Life,” a life committed to Christ and open to how God is preparing to use them.
Ross will tackle “One Mission,” a call to this generation of students to reach other students in their home community, the nation and the world with the message of Christ.
Chris Orr will serve as the praise and worship leader and The Dramatic Vagabonds will perform the drama portion of the event.
