Missions’ ‘golden egg’

Missions’ ‘golden egg’

Your editorial in the Jan. 11 edition of The Alabama Baptist concerning the defunding of the WMU was disturbing to say the least. The “justification” given by the IMB for ending its “gifts” to WMU is only a lame excuse.

Any businessperson knows that when business is bad, you need to advertise more, not reduce advertising. And WMU is and has been the best advertisement and fund-raiser for missions that the IMB has ever had. Your statistics showed that.

Let’s be honest. Some of the leadership of the SBC do not like WMU because they can’t control it.

Taking away the “gift,” even as small as it is, when the WMU is in financial straits is a blatant attempt to kill the organization. What they fail to realize is that they may be killing the goose that laid the golden egg. I am writing to IMB trustees to point this out. I suggest that others also write to them.
