I always enjoy your articles, even when I disagree. You help me to consider issues from different perspectives. Your article “Can Islam Live in Freedom with Others?” (Feb. 23 issue) was not only well-written and presented with obvious forethought and grace but is one of the most courageous and honest articles I have read concerning the current state of world affairs. I often wonder if our leaders in Washington, D.C., have even taken the time to read the Koran or other “hadiths” in order to get a handle on what our nation is dealing with. I see two looming dangers for the church — we have no idea what Muslims really believe, and worst of all, our own faith is often “hand-me-down” and ill understood. These are interesting times to be a follower of Jesus.
When America is attacked again, as we will be, I pray it will not be too late for us to deal with this clear and present danger. Most of all, I pray that as Christians, our hearts will not grow cold and give in to revenge and violence as the answer. We must find a way to relate and love the Muslim people in order for the true Light to shine in their dark world. Thanks again for saying what needed to be said. May your courage and grace be contagious.
