Coosa River Association WMU turns 100

The Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) of Coosa River Baptist Association celebrated its 100th birthday April 5 during its annual meeting. About 170 people gathered at Hepzibah Baptist Church, Talladega, for a banquet and program commemorating the history and evolution of WMU’s programs for girls and women — Girls in Action, Acteens, Women on Mission and WMU. Speakers representing WMU’s different programs and its associational, state and national levels shared historical facts during the meeting, said Carolyn Grizzle, associational WMU director. Four women were also honored for their work during the program, noted Grizzle, a member of Five Points Baptist Church, Sylacauga. Ginny Sims of First Baptist Church, Talladega, received the Women on Mission of the Year Award. Three women who have served on the WMU associational leadership team for more than 10 years were also honored and given plaques — Ida Neal, Cartersville Baptist Church, Alpine; Nell Brasher, First Baptist Church, Childersburg; and Linda Cotton, Shiloh Baptist Church, Talladega.
