The Case for Character

Drayton Nabers Jr., chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, recently released a new book, “The Case for Character: Looking at Character from a Biblical Perspective.”
   
“We need to re-center the character ethic in American life, in our churches, in our families, in our schools and in ourselves,” Nabers said. “This book is an effort to help us understand what re-centering character means, in biblical terms.”
   
A diverse group of religious leaders endorsed the book. Dr. Harry Reeder III of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham said, “Drayton Nabers has provided for us an important and crucial work that calls us to the development of character by the grace of God and for the glory of God, to know who we are in Christ, to be who we are in Christ, and to live according to those glorious truths. … It is my privilege to recommend it as well as purposely enjoy it and use it.”

The 290-page book was published by Christian Publishing Services and is available in retail outlets as well as online through bamm.com and amazon.com. Proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to area charities.
   
A graduate of Princeton University and Yale School of Law, Drayton Nabers has been an attorney for 40 years. Prior to his current position as chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, he served as finance director for the state of Alabama and as chairman and CEO of Protective Life Corporation. He also served as an adjunct instructor at Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School.
