James Aaron Barrett, former director of missions (DOM) for Central and Fayette Associations, died Jan. 28 at age 79.
Barrett was ordained into the ministry Oct. 21, 1951, by Providence Baptist Church in Central Association. He attended Baptist Theological College (now The Baptist College of Florida) in Graceville, Fla. Barrett also received a Certificate in Christian Training from Samford University’s extension program.
Prior to serving as DOM, Barrett was pastor of Corinth, New Harmony and Verbena Baptist churches in Chilton Association. He was also pastor of Union, Sardis and Providence Baptist churches in Central Association and a Florida church.
Barrett is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Barrett. She remains a member of Providence Church in Central Association where Barrett served as associate pastor. (TAB)
