Timothy Lovett recently marked 10 years as pastor of Huffman Baptist Church in Birmingham Baptist Association. He began his service at Huffman Baptist in June 1997. The church recognized the milestone and presented him with a monetary gift during Sunday morning services July 22. Lovett previously served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Scottsboro, and Franklinton Baptist Church, Pleasureville, Ky. Prior to that, he served as minister of youth at Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Vestavia Hills.
A graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Lovett earned master’s and doctoral degrees at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Lovett came to know Christ in 1976 through his involvement in the youth group at Moulton Baptist Church, the same church where he was licensed in 1978 and ordained in 1984. From 1978–1980, he served as associate pastor there.
He has served in various denominational capacities, including moderator and director of evangelism for Tennessee River Baptist Association, member of the leadership task force and executive committee for Birmingham Association, member of the Baptist Health System board of trustees and member of the Judson College board of governors. A charter member of the board of ministerial mentors for Samford, Lovett also served on the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions from 1990–1996. He currently serves on the Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center board of trustees.
Both Lovett and his wife, Penny, are natives of Moulton. They have one son, John, a junior at the University of Alabama.
