Alabama Baptists realize the need for rural development in the state, and many of them are helping in various areas. One particular initiative — Sowing Seeds of Hope — is making a major impact on Perry County, the county that birthed many Baptist institutions including The Alabama Baptist.
Perry County ranks not only as one of the poorest counties in Alabama but also in the nation.
Alabama Baptist historian Wayne Flynt is active in the work taking place with Sowing Seeds of Hope. “We envision no quick fix and no paternalistic relationship,” he said. “What we propose is a faith-based initiative that begins with the spiritual questions that energize our Christianity.”
