Associations donate used literature to book ministry

Ever wonder what to do with extra Bibles and Christian study materials lying around your home or church? Nearly a dozen congregations in Cahaba and Selma Baptist associations used their surplus to touch the lives of others across the country and around the world.

This summer, the two associations donated about 1,400 pounds of Christian literature to Book-Link Inc., a ministry of the Fellowship of Baptist Educators (FBE), which ships literature to missionaries, national pastors and school libraries in more than 50 countries worldwide. Cahaba Association also raised $500 to help pay for postage, which typically costs about $125 per box.

Since some material collected was not appropriate for international use, about 550 pounds of Christian literature was donated to the Baldwin Baptist Association truckers ministry. “It was fantastic,” said Paul Reitzer, president of FBE and pastor of Newbern Baptist Church and Mount Olive Baptist Church, Sprott, in Cahaba Association. “Every household has books and study materials that can be put back to use again if they are not using them.”
Reitzer is already looking forward to next year’s book drive. In the future, he hopes other churches will also participate. For more information or to donate books, contact Reitzer at 334-683-6336 or P.O. Box 546, Marion, AL 36756.
