The Tribute Quartet can sing southern quartet music with the best of them.
“When the Gates Open Wide” is an up-tempo quartet tune that features tenor Jacob Kitson. This kid is a great find. Glen A. Bates and Glenn E. Ashworth wrote six of the 11 songs, including “Be Still and Know,” which features great group harmonies and low notes from bass vocalist Dennis Dugger.
Bates is listed as the sole writer on four songs, including “In Remembrance of the Cross,” featuring lead vocalist, manager and southern gospel veteran Gary Casto.
If The Cathedrals were recording today, it would have snatched up “This I Know,” written by Casto and Barbara Huffman. Josh Singletary is not only a fine pianist but the redhead can do some fine baritone singing as well. In fact, he is featured on the Sinatra-sounding “Eye of the Storm” and the romping quartet song “Waiting on the Water to Part.”
The Tribute Quartet showcases its undeniable strengths on this recording. If you’ve never heard these guys, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
