There is in Jake Smith’s debut a religious devotion among his multi-layered pop intuitions and funky, smooth transitions. I hesitate to compare him to the Jason Mraz and John Mayer  sound, because he sounds capable of much more than that mold.

Perhaps it’s the New Orleans in him, but whatever it is has earned him widespread praise. There is an almost emotional Coldplay-level depth he brings to certain songs that makes me all but certain that this will be the first album in a lengthy, quality discography. Highly recommended.
