“Bigger and better” is an apt description for the fourth annual North Alabama Bible Conference held Jan. 20–23 at Decatur Baptist Church in Morgan Baptist Association.
“Turnout was even better than last year,” said Donnell Brown, director of missions for Morgan Association, which sponsored the conference. “We had about 1,700 on Sunday night.”
The main speaker that night was Ergun Caner, president of Liberty Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Va., and a former Muslim.
“People love to hear Caner’s story. It’s powerful,” Brown said, adding that while Caner’s style appeals to young people, Phil Hoskins, senior pastor of Higher Ground Baptist Church, Kingsport, Tenn., delivered a message in “the style many of us grew up with.”
Evangelist Junior Hill of Hartselle preached in place of the speaker scheduled for the night of Jan. 22, who cancelled because of a family illness. “I thought nobody preached better than our own Junior Hill,” Brown said.
“His sermon may have been the high point, with his humor that ties in with his message.”
While the conference drew people from Morgan County and the surrounding counties, some came from as far away as Birmingham. “This is becoming a regional event as more people find out about it,” Brown noted.
