Excepting a "best of" record released last year, Cheri Keaggy fans have been six years hungry for a new record.

With "Because He First Loved Us," they can lean back and hit repeat, because it’s not just new, it’s good — arguably her best. In her 12-song comeback, Keaggy (niece of Phil, who makes an appearance with the guitar solo in the song "This is the Love") shines on tracks like "Rain or Shine Friend," which is reminiscent of Sheryl Crow’s catchiest. Hints of Amy Grant can be heard throughout as well. There is a great bonus-track cover of Carole King’s "You’ve Got a Friend" with Marty Roe, lead singer for country group Diamond Rio.
