It is during this time of year that my mind is flooded with thoughts of special gifts. I can remember as a child several incredible Christmases when dreams came true as gifts were given and received. Some of these memories include gifts that I received, but some are because of special gifts that others received. My thoughts reflect back to racecar tracks, dirt bikes, a ring for my mom that we hid in Dad’s Air Force jacket, guitars and many other life-giving, fun-filled gifts. As I have grown a little older, I have understood that although these are special memories, they pale in comparison to the gift God has available for each of us.
Paul may have said it best in 2 Corinthians 9:15 when he exclaimed, “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” The longer you have a relationship with Christ, the more you realize that it is indescribable. Don’t you like that word? The King James Version utilizes the word “unspeakable.” A relationship with Christ just can’t be explained … but it sure can be enjoyed. It is hard to explain, or bottle, the excitement of a child on Christmas morning, but it sure is fun to watch. The results of a personal relationship with Christ just can’t be explained. This relationship is not filled with rules and burdens but with life, freedom and anticipation. Jesus’ purpose in Christmas was so we might have life. He desires for us to have an abundant life here on earth and an afterlife in heaven forever. That is better than opening presents on Christmas morning.
In fact, that might be why Christmas is so special. He has given us an incredible gift so we can give to others. The more we understand this “gift,” the more our lives will reflect a life of giving to others. The Bible teaches us in 1 John 4:19 that we are able to love because He first loved us. Our ability to love comes from our decision to follow Christ with our lives. Today ask Him to enter a personal relationship with you. There are a lot of great things taking place during this time of the year, but none of them will be as life giving as a new relationship with Jesus. He is Christmas and desires for you to experience His very best. Today … receive His gift. You will find that it is indescribable.
