Last year nearly 3,000 youth and adults gathered at the annual Youth Evangelism Conference (YEC) in Birmingham. This year’s YEC is expected to draw no less.
YEC, with the theme Unlocked, will be held at The Church at Brook Hills, Birmingham, in Birmingham Baptist Association.
The two-day conferences are identical, July 26–27 and July 27–28, providing the keys to unlock a personal relationship with Christ, a growing walk that honors Christ and a life lived to be on mission.
"We want to motivate, challenge and equip students to share their faith when they return to their missions fields called high schools and junior high schools," said Keith Loomis, an associate in the office of collegiate and student ministries for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
"It [YEC] is designed to also connect with adult leaders to encourage them to equip their students as well."
Students will hear from camp personalities including Wes Hamilton, teaching pastor at Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall, Texas; Scott Kindig, 20-year youth ministry veteran and now youth ministry consultant for Georgia Baptist Convention; and Mike Satterfield, pastor of the Church at Shelby Crossings, Calera.
Leading in worship for the conference will be singer/songwriter Matt Papa and drama troupe From the Branch.
"The true measuring stick as to how successful this conference is depends on what happens when they [students] go back home," he said, noting that some of the largest missions fields are the schools.
"There will be evangelistic aspects of the conference and opportunities to respond but we know that most of the students who attend are already Christians and we want to encourage them to be on mission at their campuses back home," Loomis said.
