Alabama Baptists were among the hundreds of Southern Baptists helping to make the annual meeting in San Antonio June 12–13 a success.
Jimmy Jackson, pastor of Whitesburg Baptist Church, Huntsville, and first vice president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, served this past year as first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention. He presided over part of the Tuesday morning session of the annual meeting.
Jackson also served as parliamentarian of the meeting, a role he has had for 22 years.
Tommy Fountain, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, Opp, served as chairman of the Committee on Nominations.
Mike McLemore, executive director of Birmingham Baptist Association, and Ron Madison, pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Huntsville, served on the Committee on Committees.
Larry Felkins, director of missions (DOM) for Chilton Baptist Association and president of the Alabama Baptist Directors of Missions, served on the Credentials Committee.
Galen Jones of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, served on the Resolutions Committee.
Several Alabama Baptists were also elected to serve on various boards and committees.
James H. Cooley, pastor of First Baptist, Haleyville, and Ronnie B. Holladay of Benton Baptist Church were elected to serve on the Committee on Committees for the upcoming year.
Steve Loggins, DOM for North Jefferson Baptist Association, was elected to the Executive Committee with term expiring 2011.
Frankie J. Smitherman of First Baptist Church, North Mobile, in Saraland, was elected to serve a second term with GuideStone Financial Resources with term expiring 2011.
James W. Pruett, pastor of Concord Baptist Church, Bessemer, and Linda Jean Applegarth of Taylor Road Baptist Church, Montgomery, were elected to serve second terms with the International Mission Board with terms expiring in 2011.
Larry E. Gipson, pastor of First Baptist Church, Oneonta, was elected to a second term with the North American Mission Board, term expiring 2011.
Bud Young of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church, Mobile, was elected to serve a second term with New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with term expiring 2012.
