Churches Across State Report Good News

We have been receiving good news from churches all across the state to share at a display at the annual meeting of the Alabama Baptist State Convention. The following is just a sampling of the items we have received.

Garden Baptist Church in Pickens Association reported: “We have a small membership at our church, but we have had two new members added this year. We are doing fine.”

In Autauga Association, Boone’s Chapel Baptist Church purchased a used trailer, added five Sunday School classrooms “and still need space — a wonderful problem!”

Bethany Baptist Church in Sardis Association reported: “We have eight in Sunday School and church, all older women. Our hospice ministry is a good evangelistic effort — writing letters, reading and trying to be a friend. We build up their morale.” The pastor is disabled, “but still able to go.”

Brushey Creek, a church in Butler Association averaging 20 families in Sunday School, had seven babies born last year, resulting in “the first nursery in many years.”

Grace Baptist Church in Calhoun Association noted the church gained 25 new family units in the first eight months of this year “and 18 precious souls by baptism.”

During the most recent revival at First Baptist Church, Centre (Cherokee Association), 20 people made professions of faith, 70 re¬dedicated their lives and 120 committed to share their faith.

At Westview Baptist Church in Coffee Association, as of Sept. 20, 44 people have joined the church this year, including 13 by baptism, and Sunday School has doubled.

In Sipsey Association, Bethabara Baptist Church reports 46 baptisms, 15 other additions and development of plans for a new sanctuary.

North Gardendale Baptist Church in North Jefferson Association broke ground for a new Family Life Center in April and plans the dedication service Sunday, Nov. 19.

First Baptist Church in Pelham (Shelby Association) entered its new facility in February but by September had to go to two services and two Sunday Schools.

Coosada Baptist Church in Montgomery Association thanked God for three faithful servants: Norma Jones, who has been minister of music 41 years; Marsha Cleveland, organist for 36 years; and Glenda Caldwell, pianist for 35 years.

Aimwell, a 40-member congregation in Bethel Association (Marengo County), reports that members gave $5,700 to individuals experiencing difficult times as well as $6,500 to designated missions.

Trinity Baptist Church in Randolph Association started a jail ministry that “is doing great!” They baptized 20 people upon one occasion and 35 people another time.

In Etowah Association, First Baptist, Gadsden, hosted a joint worship service with Galilee Baptist Church of the National Baptist Convention.

The Hispanic Mission of First Baptist Church, Haleyville (Winston Association), noted that 25 people have been baptized in the first two years by the mission’s pastor, Ramon Rivas.

In Alabama-Crenshaw Association, Weed Baptist Church surprised Bro. Buster Odom this summer by honoring him on his 50th anniversary in the gospel ministry.

Shiloh Baptist Church in Cherokee Association celebrated its 100th anniversary, Bro. Grover Kitchens’ 50th year in the ministry and his 30th year as their pastor.

Many churches celebrated the calling of a new pastor. Mount Zion Baptist Church in Marion Association not only called Bro. Mark Emerson as pastor but also began construction of a new building, which they hope to finish by the end of the year.
