FORT WORTH, Texas — More than 1,500 proposed resolutions on issues ranging from homosexuality to budget concerns were addressed by delegates at the United Methodist Church’s general conference, held April 23–May 2 in Fort Worth, Texas.
The 11.5 million-member church agreed to uphold the church’s stance on homosexuality. As a result, the church will continue to declare homosexual practices “incompatible with Christian teaching.”
Delegates also voted to approve full communion between the United Methodists and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Under the new agreement, the two churches will be allowed to support each other’s ministries and possibly share clergy.
Finally the church approved a $642 million budget for the next four years. (TAB)
