Zbinden, George Louis

Retired Alabama Baptist pastor George Louis Zbinden died April 17. He was 81.

During his years of ministry, Zbinden served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Winfield; Village Springs Baptist Church, Remlap; and 35th Avenue Baptist Church, Birmingham.

He also served as pastor of Park Avenue Baptist Church, Oneonta. When Zbinden retired from that position in 1998, the church named its family life center after him and his wife, Jayne.

He also was on staff at First Baptist Church, Center Point, and First Baptist Church, Pinson, where he was a member with his wife. In addition, Zbinden served as executive director of Camp Winnataska in Pell City.

A graduate of Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, he also earned a master’s of theology and religious education and doctorate of ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Zbinden served in the Navy in World War II and later in the Alabama National Guard.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, six daughters, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. (TAB)
