The Florida Boys

Welcome Home
Homeland

The Florida Boys have been making records for longer than many Singing News readers have been around — and with all of that experience, it’s no wonder that each album gets a little better than the previous one. Welcome Home definitely falls into that category.

Bass vocalist Gene McDonald gets the recording off to a swinging start with a dynamic version of “When They Ring Those Golden Bells.” Already chosen as the first radio single, this classic is a definite highlight of this Roger Bennett-produced effort.

Next is a fine song from the pen of Les Beasley, “Welcome Home,” and it also spotlights Gene. “Jesus Took Time For Me” features one of southern gospel’s all-time great baritones, Glen Allred, and he’s never sounded better than he does on this hauntingly beautiful tune.

They keep the feet tappin’ for “More Like Jesus” before they slow down for the simple “I Saw The Face of Jesus” — and most likely, a lot of people will reach for the repeat button for this one.

“Pray For The USA” (good advice, by the way) is a song the group is featuring in the nightly programs, and one of southern gospel music’s living legends, Les Beasley, is featured on the closing song, “It Will Be Worth It All Afterwhile.”
